I’ve mentioned this before, but I love trying skincare products just as much as I love shopping for shoes. I’m a product hoarder of sorts, and my main vice? Face masks. I recently realized just how many that I’ve accumulated over the past year and thought – wait, I should post about this! So today, I’m sharing the best face masks in my skincare arsenal including WHEN and WHY you should use them.
The list ranges from oil-zapping to pore detoxing and sensitive skin friendly to just plain fun to apply. I’ve tested every single one and even made Jordan try a few of these too. Whoops, he probably won’t like that I’m sharing that haha.
I hope this list gives you an idea of where to start when it comes to finding face masks right for your skin!

1. For Dull Skin | Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque
I discovered this charcoal mask a few years ago and still use it! If your skin is looking a little dull or gray – like it can get during the winter months – this one is a great option to invigorate your skin. There is a little tingle action which I personally love from a face mask. It also acts as a a legitimate exfoliator when you scrub it off. Your face will be red afterwards, but it turns into a healthy glow. My favorite of the two charcoal masks on this list.
I shared a full post on this mask here and I use it on an as-needed basis.
2. To Nourish | Tula Exfoliating Treatment Mask
This is one of my favorite masks to put on because of the consistency and because it’s blue and includes small beads to gently exfoliate. There’s a little sensation to it, but I like to think it’s the purification process working. A probiotic strand leaves your skin soft and feeling balanced. Your skin feels very healthy and nourished afterwards.
I’m hoping to share more about this brand’s probiotic products very soon! I use this mask about twice a month.
3. Gentle For Every Day | fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask
I’ve recently stumbled across fresh’s line of masks – and I’m LOVING them! These are gentle enough for me to use every day. So I’ve started to apply them right after workouts and before I take a shower as a way to keep my skin clear. This Umbrian clay mask can be used as a daily deep cleanser, so it’s not stripping your skin of oils or moisture. It’s also been seen to reduce the appearance of pores!
I alternate fresh masks after workouts about every other day 10 mins before hoping in the shower.
4. Oil Zapping | Murad Insta-Matte Oil Control Mask
I’m literally typing this post after using this mask for the first time, and I feel like I do need to include it on this list. After sitting at my computer for long periods of time is when I notice my skin at it’s oiliest. Around lunch I’d say is the oiliest part of my day. I just got up to take a break and my face is surprisingly matte. The jury is out on this one to see how it works for the rest of the day, but I’m already impressed with my matte T-Zone! This mask only takes 3 minutes which is great for when you need a quick fix.
Just started using this one and will update this post with my frequency after extended use.
5. Resurfacing + Radiance | Rodial Super Acids X-treme Hangover Mask
This mask is the best smelling one on this list in my opinion. It’s also a rub-off clay that requires no water for removal because you want to keep the ingredients are intended to keep working on your skin. As you rub it off, it’s exfoliating your skin and fruit acids are retexturing. One of my favorites – on my second tube of this!
The name says it all – I use this mask on days when I’m not feeling my best for an instant lift.
6. Advanced Moisture | fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask
I really love the texture of this mask that also has a nice cooling effect. Note that it doesn’t dry out like other masks do which for me means that it’s packed with hydrating ingredients. It feels very luxe and velvety and contains Kombucha that helps defend agains free-radicals. This mask has a significant moisturizing effect said to last for six hours after application which is great for winter or to use before bed.
I alternate fresh masks after workouts about every other day 10 mins before hoping in the shower, but I mainly use this one after evening workouts.
7. Pore Cleansing | Colleen Rothschild Clarifying Detox Mask
Intended to detox the pores and draw out impurities while leaving behind micronized silver to keep the bacteria out. I would actually compare this mask to an at-home facial because I did see a few breakouts after using this mask – which means it does what it says. It literally brought the bacteria out of my skin! It’s a good mask if you want to reboot your skin and start from zero.
I would suggest using this mask about once a month to keep your pores healthy and clean.
8. Oxygen Boosting | Skyn Iceland Fresh Start Mask
This is a two-step mask to polish and retexture you skin. You start with a blue clay and then apply a fruit acid gel over the top that creates an oxygen foam. Oxygen masks are great for literally breathing life into dull skin and boost luminosity. Use this when your skin feels fatigued after a long flight or vacation!
I use this mask as needed, but you can use as much as once a week!
9. Tightening + Firming | GlamGlow Gravity Mud Mask
Definitely the most fun mask on this list to apply and to peel off. The mask changes colors on your face from white to chrome. It’s designed to tighten the appearance of skin which you definitely feel once the mask has been removed. The skins contours will be more defined and lifted.

10. For Sensitive Skin | Clinique Pore Refining Solutions
Clinique has always been known to create products for even the most sensitive skin. I would say this mask is the most gentle on this list. For this reason, I don’t use it that often – I like the ones that burn and tingle. I’ve actually made Jordan use this mask a few times because I knew it wouldn’t freak him out like a few of the others on this list!
Use this mask if you have sensitive skin or just would like a gentle skin detox.
