In a recent email interview, I was sent a list of questions including one in particular that really made me stop and think. “How would you describe your personal style in three words?” I mean, it’s a pretty straight-forward question that had me scratching my head. What the heck IS my personal style? Shouldn’t I know the answer to this? I’m sharing how I came up with my three words and how I found my own personal style through blogging in today’s full post. Keep reading for tips on identifying your personal style too!
I picked this Banana Republic outfit specifically to wear for this post, because it completely embodies my own personal style. See why in the full post!
Keep Reading Identifying Your Personal Style Below
The first thing I did was scroll all the way through my Instagram feed. Did I cringe at some of my early photos? Absolutely. But it was so intriguing to see just how much my style has changed in only a few years – from last year even. In the beginning of my blog, I was really quite the chameleon – jumping from trend to trend. I’m talking neon, color blocking, boho festival, edgy-chic. I wore it all. I even changed my hair color a few times along the way to ombre and strawberry blonde. (Insert wide-eyed emoji)
I love that having a blog allowed me to try each one of those style personalities on for size. And doing so helped me find which type of clothing really makes me look and feel like my best self. I mean I literally have documentation of every cringe-worthy outfit over the past three years. I challenge you to scroll back through your old photos on Instagram or Facebook to see what worked and what didn’t work for your personality!
Word 1: Classic
I have a tendency to attach to classic styles that are both universally flattering and versatile from year-to-year. I love a classic denim like this dark wash skinny jean that’s super slimming. I’ve since traded in my highlighter neon colors for hues that are softer and more feminine. Crisp fabrics and tailored silhouettes are a common theme in my closet!
Word 2: Southern
I guess this depends on what comes to mind when you hear the word “southern” in regards to style. (I’m not talking shrimp boots guys.) For me, I think light and airy, preppy, casual, and more than anything charming. Something you’d wear while sipping sweet tea on the porch. Floral prints and gingham are the way to my heart which is why this off-the-shoulder top stopped me in my tracks. And much like hair in the south, the bigger the better when it comes to these sleeves.
Word 3: Attainable
I’ve always been a fiscally conscious when it comes to shopping. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good splurge now and then. But for the most part, I’m always wearing pieces that mostly fall in the $50-$100 range – and there’s a good chance I found at least one item on sale! Deal hunting has always been a thrill of mine, and I love sharing good sale steals on APOL. Exactly why I love Banana Republic – you can almost always find a good deal going on! (I scored these navy mules for 30% off recently.)
Would love to hear what your three words would be in the comments!
