Today, I’m talking about my new and improved weekly workout schedule for 2017. And when I say new and improved, I mean I actually have a workout schedule this year. Unlike last year when I hit the gym MAYBE three times. (So embarassing, I know.) I’m sharing my failures from last year and how I’ve been able to make time for exercise in today’s post!
I’m also sharing some really cute Nordstrom Rack activewear, but more on that later.
Last year I used time as an excuse to not workout. I kept telling myself there wasn’t enough time in the day. I’m the biggest non-morning person you’ll ever meet. I need my 8+ hours of sleep you guys! When I did have a full-time office job going to the gym after work to sweat for an hour sounded like the WORST idea ever. Not to mention, my evenings were devoted to my blog at that time, so I just didn’t do it.
Once I decided to go full-time with APOL, I made a mental list of all the things that I’d have “time” to finally do. I was so excited to read more, workout, cook more, get outside, see my friends. But guess what. I still didn’t do any of those things.
Ps. Remember my Power Words post about BALANCE? Here’s where that comes in.
See how to make time for exercise in today’s full post!
Plus, see my favorite Nordstrom Rack activewear picks below!
1. Switching my Internal Clock
This is still a work in progress because I still do NOT love waking up before the sun. But I had to make the conscious choice to start my day earlier if I wanted to fit more into it. Instead of staying up until 12 am every night, I’m getting into bed by 10:30 pm so that I can wake up for 6 am. I’ve gotta admit you guys, my productivity levels are so much higher now. It did take me about a week to get adjusted to early wake ups and being tired in the middle of the day. I’ve been told this is supposed to get easier and that I’ll start waking up on my own. I’m still highly doubtful about that…
2. Using Activewear As Motivation
The first few times that I woke up at 6 am for my 7 am workout, I ended up looking like a HOT MESS. Which technically doesn’t matter as long as you’re working out, but if you’re running errands afterwards… different story. There were a few times I looked at myself in a mirror and hoped that I didn’t see anyone that I knew that day, haha.
But you guys, activewear can be pretty pricey! Especially if you need enough pieces to take you through a week of 4-5 workout sessions. So I’ve started turning to Nordstrom Rack for affordable activewear pieces. They even have popular shoe brands like Adidas and New Balance at amazing discounts. I got all of today’s look from Nordstrom Rack and instead of spending $100 on one pair of leggings, I could get the entire outfit for the same amount!
Now I’m not embarrassed after spin class and can still afford that green juice afterwards.
3. New Rules For Rewarding Myself
Because I’ve been making so much progress in the gym, I’ve already seen a change in the way that I look at food. Instead of looking at a donut – or in my case right now, king cake – like a practical mid-day snack, I’m finding it easier to pass up on sweets. And now those mindless snacks I would have eaten in a heartbeat last year are actually treats that I reserve for myself on the weekends. Weekends have become my
cheat treat days for sleeping in later than 6 am and indulging a little. Now I’m even MORE excited about Saturday. 🙂
How are you guys getting through your workout goals this year? Any tips and tricks that I should try out?
