    Paris Instagram Recap

In case you weren’t following along on Instagram last week (for shame!), I wanted to highlight my favorite photos from my Paris trip to maybe give you some quick ideas or insight into your own trip. These are just little tid-bits while next week begins the actual full-blown Paris blog posts! Get ready, I’m so excited to share!

    1. An absolute must in Paris is dining at an outdoor cafe – we ate at this cute one with colorful chairs in the Latin Quarter. Most of the cafes had chairs that face the street instead of the tables… for lots of people watching!
    2. Okay, I know lots of people told us that the Moulin Rouge would be the absolute, most overrated thing we’d do on this trip, but I had the BEST time. Champagne with lots of sequin and feathery costumes? Yes!
    3. Macarons. We visited Ladurée twice within 24 hours. I mean, we stopped in the middle of the day to drink coffee and eat real French macarons. Life was perfect in that instant.
    4. You simply cannot visit Paris without visiting the Louvre to fight your way through the crowd and get a photo of the Mona Lisa. You just can’t.
    5. More champagne of course – on a river cruise on the Seine. (We drank lots of champagne.)
    6. My favorite part of the trip – the palace of Versailles. If you ever have the opportunity to go here – DO IT!

Like I said, just a little peeks of our trip, but the full posts will be up next week! Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

    Defeat Your Unflattering Color

Joe Fresh tee (SIMILAR); skirt (no longer available) (SIMILAR / on sale); Brian Atwood pumps via Gilt; Zara clutch; Marc by Marc Jacobs aviators; red beaded bracelet c/o Leah Alexandra; Stella & Dot Renegade Cluster bracelet; Hamsa bracelet c/o Dotted Tusk; gold bead bracelet c/o Accessory Auctions; Michael Kors watch; two gold vintage bracelets; red stone DIY bracelet.

I hope this post greets you before you are all packing up for your July 4th holiday weekend! This is one of my favorite, favorite outfits that I’ve shot this summer. Oh the patterns – and the color you will not see me wearing very often – orange.

I’m not sure why, but orange and I have a difficult relationship. (Everyone has a color they don’t like on themselves, right?) I’ve found that I just cannot wear it… unless it’s paired with something else. Something else that will take the focus off of the orange up against my skin – a color that will neutralize it’s unflattering quality.

I’m about to get all graphic design on you here. Take a look at a basic COLOR WHEEL. My unflattering orange is across the color wheel from blue, a color I’d like to think is rather flattering on me. Orange and Blue are complementary colors – They neutralize each other. Wear them together. If you hate how a color looks on you, pair it with it’s opposite. And once you do that, don’t be afraid to throw in another color in smaller amounts.

In this case, red was just the right accent color for my orange and blue. I used my red, Leah Alexandra bracelet to bring out the red stripes in my skirt. (A skirt – which btw – began as a pencil skirt that I had shortened and taken in. A seamstress is a budget shopper’s best friend.)

What do you think? Are you ready to conquer your  most unflattering hue?

Behind the Blog / Living In Color Print

Meet Kristin from Living In Color Print:

    1. Where is your happy place?

My happy place is right where my loved ones are: my family, friends, loving boyfriend of almost 7 yrs, and my baby [aka my fat english bulldog] mean the world to me, so there’s no where else I’d rather be than in their company.

    2. Can’t live without?

Pandora. I know that seems kind of old school, but it’s true! I love me some Pandora, pretty much all day everyday. Yes, I realize there are probably far more tech savvy ways of listening to countless songs these day, but you know what they say – can’t teach an old dog new tricks. And I’m happy with Pandora.

    3. What’s one recipe (can be a drink!) that you make really well?

Cheesy potatoes! So I’m not a huge cook in the kitchen, although I try, but my favorite food is potatoes so anything incorporating those starchy babies I can pretty much conquer. My Mom has made cheesy potatoes for years, so it’s one of those hand-me-down recipes I just love. Seriously easy, basically frozen hashbrowns with a ton of unhealthy goodness, mixed in a glass baking dish – goof proof and finger linkin’ good!

    4. What are you currently coveting – doesn’t have to be a monetary thing.

The ability to travel far and frequently. I absolutely love traveling and wish I had more time and money in this lifetime to simply pick up my bags and travel the world to experience new things. Until then, I’m content gushing over my ‘travel’ pinterest board along with annual trips to NYC, Colorado, and elsewhere. Ok, so I do get out a little!

    5. Random fact about yourself!

I’m extremely expression-ate/animated, or so I’m told haha. My closest friends and family laugh at my constantly for making silly noises to exude my thoughts or feelings, along with my numerous facial expressions. Sometimes I look back at photoshoot outtakes and think ‘what the heck am I doing here’?! I certainly can’t hide my emotions, thoughts, or feelings very well, it just seems to all creep out in my facial expressions letting the entire world know what’s going on in my head.

    Behind the Blog / Upperlyne

I’m so excited to introduce my “Behind the Blog” series featuring some of my favorite bloggers while I’m gone for vacation. The goal was to get a little insight into the person… well, away from the their computers and outfit posts. Each of them will be giving you little tidbits or lesser known facts of their lives. Enjoy!

    Meet Juley from Upperlyne:

    1. Where is your happy place?

It changes with the seasons, but right now my happy place is my balcony. I love spending weekend mornings there eating breakfast, enjoying the breeze and listening to music to get energized for the day.

    2. Can’t live without?

Can’t live without my pup, Jameson!

    3. What’s one recipe that you make really well?

This New York Times Chocolate Chip Cookie (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/dining/091crex.html) recipe will change your life.

    4. Currently coveting?

Currently coveting a vacation – preferably to Corsica

    5. Random fact about yourself!

Hmmmm I’m pretty random in general, but I can rap the Fresh of Bel-Air theme song! Disclaimer: It’s probably more like rap along with the theme song, haha.

Tomorrow, I’m off to France, and I’m a ball of excitement, anxiety and and stress. Excited, clearly because I get a week off to visit one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Anxiety because I’ll be away from work for a full week – something I’ve never, EVER done before. Stressed because I still am not finished packing. Shown above is my ideal suitcase – if only making a collage of travel outfits were as simple as putting the real thing in a suitcase…

BUT while I’m gone, the blog will keep going. I’ve lined up some awesome guest bloggers at the beginning of next week to keep things new and interesting. I’ll be back battling jetlag and trying to put together some great travel posts for you before you know it! Have a great weekend!
