5 Things to Leave Behind in 2017

Before we start talking about goals and visions for the new year, I’m doing something difficult in today’s post. I’m looking back at the last year and taking note of the areas where I struggled the most. Because how can you start fresh without getting rid of the yucky stuff you’re hanging onto? Below are my top five things to leave behind in 2017!

1. Guilt

I’m pressing reset on any guilt associated with goals that will be left unmet at the end of this year. I tend to be the hardest on myself when I think that I didn’t work hard enough or do enough to meet certain business/personal goals. I constantly struggle with time management and sometimes an inability to live in the moment which creates a lot of internal anxiety. Setting and managing my expectations on a weekly basis will be a healthy way for me to handle stressors like guilt in 2018.

The one simple change that has allowed me to make time for exercise and set realistic workout goals.

2. Unhealthy Eating + Inconsistent Workouts

My clean eating started out so well at the beginning of 2017 as I started to pay more attention to foods that disagreed with my system. I was doing regular juice cleanses while nixing dairy and gluten from my diet. I’d literally never felt lighter or more energetic. And yet here I am writing this after eating two fully iced sugar cookies feeling like a slug.

Instead of just giving myself general eating guidelines in 2018, I want to set monthly meal plans that include at least one cleanse and at least one meal delivery subscription. I say meal delivery because when our meals are not planned, I tend to eat “whatever” is easiest…like pizza.

3. Clutter

Yep, I need to do a clutter purge asap. Not only is it just crowding our house, it’s crowding my energy. I can’t walk into my office or closet without suddenly feeling overwhelmed with STUFF. My big project this week is to cleanse the house of any unnecessary things that we’re holding onto for no reason.

Ps. This means more clothes on Poshmark and my Closet Sale site over the next few weeks – majorly discounted because it’s gotta go y’all!

4. Negativity

And speaking of cleansing. I think a big energy cleanse to start 2018 is something we all could use! Let’s leave any negative thoughts about ourselves, about others or about situations we cannot change in 2017! It’s SO easy to hop on social media and have negative thoughts of envy, comparison and jealousy, right?

I have a few favorite ways to rid negativity like leaving notes of positive affirmation for myself around the house. See my full list in this post.

5. Impatience

I’m one of the most impatient people ever. In life. In business. Technology has especially amplified my need for instant gratification! I think being more mindful of the difference between short-term and long-term goals will help me have a more realistic picture of success and relationships.

What are you leaving behind in 2017? I’d love to hear in the comments!

I’ve been doing hungryroot meal delivery. I love it because it is so easy to prepare and it’s yummy! It is touted as being vegan and gluten free of which I am neither. I add grilled chicken or fish to many of the dishes. Btw this is my first comment on your blog, but I really like it and your house is gorgeous. Would love a whole home tour!
