This is a bit of a different post for me, BUT like I said in my resolutions post, I want to provide you guys with more content of value this year. One of the priorities on my list is to get more REAL about my daily life and a look at my normal routine. So why not include a peek into my fridge and my newly adopted clean eating grocery list?
I don’t often post about my diet – this is something that I think is so private and personal for a lot of people. The last thing I want to do is make you feel like what you’re eating is WRONG. I think it’s important for everyone to listen to their bodies when it comes to making informed food decisions.
I have a sensitive stomach and several food allergies (gluten and dairy specifically) which is why I chose to start the year by adopting clean eating habits. The months of November and December had me eating SO poorly and making the worst food choices for my system. I was tired, unmotivated, unproductive – walking around in basically a fog. Bad food decisions were impacting me in BIG ways.
In today’s post, I’m outlining easy food swaps that I made in our fridge, my clean eating grocery list, and how it’s changed the way I feel!
After the last week’s ice storm and my insane cabin fever, I’m SO grateful to have such a beautiful weekend to get outside. The temps are mild, and there are already little hints that spring is around the corner. I found these gorgeous peonies at Fresh Market – and if you live in Louisiana, you know we do NOT get peonies this big. They might have only lasted three days, but they were so so worth having in our entry way! How are you guys getting your homes ready for a new season?
2. Aveda Invati Haircare
I’m excited to start testing out Aveda’s new Invati thickening haircare system. Complete with shampoo, conditioner – and my absolute favorite thickening spray (see this Aveda post), this system is supposed to reduce hair loss. I’ll be doing a review once I’ve tried all the products and have used it long enough to give you guys my full opinion. Side note, my everyday hair tutorial video will be coming up very soon!
Whaaat, thank you 225 Magazine for this little shoutout in your January issue! Feeling ever so grateful to be next to some really special and talented people in Baton Rouge!
4. January Travels
The year is just getting started but so is my travel schedule for January! My first trip of the year was to Philadelphia with family to watch the Eagles playoff game (Jordan’s brother-in-law plays for the Eagles!)
This week, I have TWO upcoming blog trips. The first is to Cincinnati to visit the Tide labs – yes, the actual lab where I’ll be learning to treat stains and care for the overall life of our clothes. Excited to learn some new tips and tricks – and of course share all this knowledge with you.
Next, I’ll also be heading to Charlotte with the Belk team to get a behind the scenes look at some of their private labels. This will be my first time to Charlotte outside of just flight layovers in the airport, so I’m excited to get to know the city better with the Belk team!
Kinda taking the new year, fresh start, blank canvas thing literally in our house right now! I’ve basically removed every painting and piece of art off the walls and am looking to refresh our home decor this month. While I still love the Minted.com print above our bed, I think I want something a little different now. I also removed our gallery wall behind our couch a few months ago because I want to find to large scale pieces that will replace it. I haven’t quite found what I’m looking for yet, but please email me if you have local artist suggestions or a favorite site to find artwork. Hope to update you guys on this progress soon as I think wall art can really transform a room.
2. Tata Harper Skincare
I’ve heard a lot of really great things about the Tata Harper skincare line, namely that it’s 100% natural and non-chemical. I had this clarifying mask for about a month before I actually tried it though. It was right after Christmas, my skin was majorly freaking out on me from all of the added sugar in my diet. I had multiple small breakouts pop up on my cheeks – and this is normally where I get them when I’m eating poorly. I had heard this particular Tata Harperclarifying mask was a miracle worker on blemishes and wanted to see if all the reviews were true. You. Guys. The hype is real.
I wore this mask at night not expecting much. My skin was definitely softer and a little dewey right after, but when I woke up the next morning, the blemishes had basically disappeared. Now this is a pretty small jar, so I’ll most likely only use it for those exact instances where I want to hopefully wake up with clearer skin. I also have used the Tata Harperclarifying moisturizer that goes with it, and now I’ll wear it on in-between days when I’m just working from home. I’ve definitely had clearer skin after using these two!
3. Favorite Blog Post This Week
Ask and you shall receive. That’s exactly what I learned last week when I polled my audience on IG Stories. I asked for people to direct message me the one thing that bothers them most about bloggers/influencers on Instagram. OH BOY, did I get a response! I thought about sharing the most helpful screenshots on IG, but even better – I did a full blog post on it! I shared all of the feedback that I received in one big post, and in case you didn’t catch it yet, READ IT HERE. I’m really excited to share this one!
4. Reading List
I picked up a new book this week that I saw on The Skinny Confidential’s IG Story called Tribe of Mentors. I’ve been meaning to get back into reading – it’s literally been months since I’ve picked a book up. I usually listen to podcasts while multi-tasking because I can’t seem to set aside time to devote to a book. BUT because one of my main intentions this year is to keep learning, I wanted to start with this one in particular. Will let you guys know how I like it – would you be interested in a post about my favorite books? A few of my other favorites are The 4-Hour Work Week, The Secret (have read this one multiple times), and I also started Your Best Year Ever.
Before we start talking about goals and visions for the new year, I’m doing something difficult in today’s post. I’m looking back at the last year and taking note of the areas where I struggled the most. Because how can you start fresh without getting rid of the yucky stuff you’re hanging onto? Below are my top five things to leave behind in 2017!
About a month ago, we were invited to an event that was business attire, and I had the most difficult time deciding what to wear. I knew most of the people attending were from law firms and political groups, and here I was a work-from-home fashion blogger… Not exactly the closet full of workwear options, right? But a light bulb went off, and I reached for a classic pantsuit that I’ve had for YEARS.
