The humidity in the south has been so painful and seems to show no signs of cooling down anytime soon. As I walk from place to place in the city, heated and exhausted, my mind cannot help but wander to a few weeks ahead when autumn is in full force. It is one of my favorite seasons, especially when it comes to fashion. And while fashion has the tendency to come and go, this year’s fall trends have strong staying power! They are full of so many vintage but fresh influences which I cannot wait to wear. So if you’re in need of key transitional pieces to make the switch from summer to fall easier, I’ve partnered with Marks & Spencer to share the fall trends I’m super obsessed with right now.

1. Animal Print
Animal print, namely leopard, might just be fall’s hottest trend and there’s no doubt that it’ll make a new and fun addition to your wardrobe. This Marks & Spencer slip dress is perfect for finishing up summer and can be taken into fall with a turtleneck underneath or longline cardigan and boots. I love that leopard print functions as a neutral and can look classy or daring depending on how you style it.
2. Jewel Tones
Fall 2018 is all about saturated colors, but don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be intimidating neon hues. My personal preference is for jewel tones. I have always been a fan of jewel tones like the maroon color of this fit and flare dress because it’s romantic and sophisticated. Color aside, the body con fit and fishtail hem are such perfect updates for fall. It would look amazing with a cropped biker jacket or oversized wool coat. I’m so excited to wear this to upcoming events.
I noticed from the runways that designers were delivering tons of timeless options for getting dressed this fall. These are clothes that have been pared back to reflect the essential in everyday – and we can actually wear them on the daily. There are no spontaneous twists or funky accents needed. A prime example of this classic offering is a blush-toned blouse. It can be layered with a blazer to transform your summer look into a more autumn vibe. The satin base adds a nice silky texture and I love how it lives on even as the air gets a bit crisper and cooler outside.
4. Luxe Textures
Textures will be huge this fall and perhaps it is time to put away the straw bag until next spring. Fortunately, you don’t need to wait for the holidays to pull out darker hues, stronger fabrics, and cool hardware. Handbags are absolutely an effective transitional piece so if you’re ready to play with texture, try a velvet handbag. The simple change of a bag can take one of the most summer-looking outfits into something autumn appropriate. The jewel-toned color, embellishments, and hardware on this one make it hard to resist.
5. Transitional Shoes
There are two styles I’m completely obsessed with right now: mules and sock boots. Mules won’t be losing their appeal anytime soon, just swap your sandals for a pointed toe pair this fall. I love how these look with jeans, pencil skirts, and dresses. Then there’s the sock boot, which has become an integral part of my wardrobe even though I was a little confused when they first came out. This pair from Marks & Spencer is super versatile for pairing with mini skirts, jeans and more. Not only that, but they’re extremely comfortable and affordable!
