Five Things To Pack For Festival Season

With March already upon us, everyone here in South Louisiana
is looking forward to festival season, which is why I’ve been brainstorming
must-have items that I’ll need in the upcoming weeks. Since this isn’t my first
rodeo, I like to think I have some insight on just this subject for anyone with
travel plans that land them in New Orleans this spring, so I’ve teamed up with Dove and Simply Stylist to talk about my
must-pack pieces and must-experience festival spots!

Spring is one of my absolute favorite times to visit New
Orleans because the weather will be mild and the city will be alive with music
and festival activities. In fact, there are a ton of outside activities to
partake in – outdoor dining, walking tours, bicycle tours, concerts etc. There
are so many places to explore, see and eat – you will literally want to spend
your entire weekends outside!

So what do you need to spend your weekend falling in love
with Nola? Here are the top five things that I would suggest packing for a trip
to The Big Easy along with some suggestions on activities:

A Flowy Top

Spring is mild in the South, but that doesn’t mean it won’t
be hot. Stick to flowy tops that
will give you breeze and some movement– think white cotton pieces with a loose fit like the one in today’s post
that has bell sleeves and an adjustable tie at the neck that’s perfect for Buku
Music and Art Fest
outdoor evenings at my personal favorite Bacchanal in the Bywater.

Comfortable Shoes

One of the biggest struggles for me can be figuring out what
shoes to wear in New Orleans because you want to be comfortable without giving
up style. I’m a huge fan of the slip-on
that are out right now for spring. They come in a ton of colors
and are super versatile when it comes to pairing with shorts, jeans and even
dresses. You’ll need these for all the walking you’ll do at French Quarter
, and if you haven’t
eaten enough already, you can walk on over to El Gato Negro close by for some margaritas and Mexican food! OR hop into one of the vampire or voodoo

A Versatile Handbag

Crossbody bags
are always a good choice for spring, but if you’re venturing out for serious
festival activities, I’d suggest a backpack. Plus, there are SO many cute
backpacks out right now – I could devote an entire post on this. (Maybe I
will!) You’ll ultimately want a backpack for Jazz Fest & Heritage Festival when you’ll need to hold onto
your sunblock, battery-operated fan and any souvenirs you pick up along the way.
As you’re walking to the parade grounds stop for a Bloody Mary at Luizza’s!

Beauty Products with
Staying Power

If you’re not used to the heat down South, you may be
surprised by your makeup sliding down the side of your face. Okay, maybe I’m
exaggerating slightly, but you should seriously consider the staying power of
your products when you visit New Orleans. One tried and true product that I
suggest packing along with you – Dove
Dry Spray Antiperspirant
. It goes on instantly dry and lasts for 48 hours –
and it actually smells really good – plus it’s good for softer, smoother skin. I
know people who carry this around in their purses with them. AND I’ve had
someone ask me what perfume I’m wearing recently… when all I was actually
wearing was the Dove
Dry Spray

Another tip for escaping the heat? Try shopping on Magazine Street or Royal Street where there are plenty of stores to pop into for a
blast of A/C! Pop into Hemline and
Cella’s Boutique in the French Quarter and stop by Kendra Scott’s new location
and Warby Parker on Magazine Street.

 Accessories with Personality

And last but not least, pack some punchy accessories to add
some fun into your outfits. I love wearing a lot of tassel bracelets in
multiple colors or bring a bright pair of sunglasses – love these heart frames!
And I know I’m a cheeseball for a good photo moment, but pack your selfie stick
as there are SO many photo ops in New Orleans that you won’t want to miss! For
the best people watching and silly souvenir shopping, of course, head over to Bourbon Street where in between bars
there are conveniently stationed t-shirt and souvenir shops!

This place has the most perfect environment for whatever fun activity you are looking for. If you want a low key and more intimate atmosphere, come and hang out here. If you want the party scene, weekends at these venues in Houston are where it's at!
