This Thursday, I’m hitting the road for the Big D – Dallas! Growing up in North Louisiana, I was a mere hop, skip and a jump away from the city, but now I’m a flight away which means I don’t get to visit quite as much. It’s only a little weekend trip, but I’m going to be packing A LOT of stuff in my checked bag. Which means, I’ll also need to be packing a well-equipped carry-on bag. So to help prep for all the packing I’ll be doing over the next days, I teamed up with Quilted Koala and their super soft and adorable totes and duffels to share a few of my favorite travel hacks for carry-on luggage!
See all of my packing tips in today’s full post!
Depending on your necessities, Quilted Koala offers two styles of bags that are perfect carry-on companions. The duffle is great for storing overhead and the tote is just right for storing under the seat in front of you. Plus, they come in the cutest colors and patterns!
1. Put small books, magazines and anything flat in the bottom of your bag first. This will give the other items a softer and more firm spot to rest when on the ground.
2. Put small items like sunglasses or jewelry inside your shoes to keep them from floating around inside of your bag and potentially getting broken!
3. Wear your heaviest shoes to the airport if possible. Pack your smaller shoes like foldable flats in your bag so they take up less space and help keep your bag lighter.
4. Pack a scarf! It will double as a blanket and potential pillow for your head on the plane. I’m always freezing on planes wishing I had a blanket!
4. Keep your tech cords nice and orderly by storing them in an unused sunglasses case. You’ll never have to deal with cords wrapped around misc items and your chargers will be easier to find.
5. Use a lightweight bag if you expect to be carrying heavier items. These Quilted Koala bags are made of light cotton and are super soft making them easy to carry and easy to store.
6. Wrap up your valuables in something soft so that bumps along the journey don’t potentially break your jewelry. This Quilted Koala jewelry roll is a secure and padded roll to keep your accessories safe and easy to locate.
I know this is specifically focused more on carry-on packing tips, but one tip that I ALWAYS use for my checked bag is rolling my clothing. I realized the impact of the rolling phenomenon after going to Greece for a week and a half with only a carry-on bag. Sounds crazy, but yes, rolling really saved me that much room in my bag.
Make sure to check out Quilted Koala’s vast variety of bags and totes. They are available in a number of cute colors and patterns, so it’s hard to pick a favorite – totally why I got three different ones. They are really soft and lightweight. I can’t help but think what great bags they would be for new moms especially with Mother’s Day right around the corner. The duffel would also be great for graduation presents for girls going off to college and will need a bag to come home for the weekends. See the full collection on the Quilted Koala website!
Are you using any travel hacks that aren’t on this list? I’d love to know them and try them out!
