Road Trip Essentials For a Girls’ Getaway

It’s hard to believe that after years of traveling together, Jenn (Haute Off the Rack) and I had never hopped in the car for a road trip! We decided spring was the perfect time for us to head to 30A, and we started planning our first adventure on the road. Normally for trips to the beach, I’m in the car with Jordan – and that’s a whole different dynamic. Talk radio, country music, limited bathroom breaks. Needless to say, I was excited for a girls-only beach escape, and I started rounding up some road trip essentials perfect for our beach getaway!

In between Jenn’s incessant Disney musical performances and many rest top breaks, we also had a list of podcasts to listen to as well as snacks. I think Lainey, our photographer, might have wanted to throw herself out of the car a few times. I was in charge of snacks and treats, and I had packed away a few bags of Werther’s Cocoa Créme – new flavor alert! (And these are not the Werther’s you remember from your grandparent’s house. These are chewy caramels filled with the most delicious chocolate filling. Talking more about them + about a fun giveaway below.)

1. Playlists

Get your playlists ready! I’d suggest getting everyone in the car to submit songs for one big playlist on someone’s phone. OR if one person has the IHeartRadio app or Spotify, nominate them to be in charge of the music. We went the Spotify route, and had a 90’s jam session on the way home.

2. Podcasts

Same as above – everyone in the car should come up with a few different podcast options that might be entertaining to listen to. We listened to Mother, May I Sleep With Podcast (for Lifetime Movie fans), Bitch Sesh (for Bravo fans) – but the options are endless!

3. Snacks

Y’all, I think we legit went through at least 3 bags of Werther’s Cocoa Créme. They basically saved the entire trip because anytime anyone got cranky, I’d hand them a  little caramel treat. Could this strategy be applied in normal life? Maybe. It’s worth a try. I’ll test it on Jordan and let you know how it goes…

Ps. Beginning March 27, 2017, Werther’s is helping fans and followers across the country enjoy more “Werth It” moments by hosting a Cocoa Crème giveaway. For six weeks, fans can enter to win sweet weekly prizes, as well as a Luxury Spa Getaway Grand Prize for two in Naples, FL. Enter at

4. Tech Chargers

Make sure to keep multiple phone chargers in the car at all times. You’ll need them for the playlists, podcasts and your maps app! This may seem like a no-brainer, but you’ve never seen a moment of panic like Jenn getting off on the wrong exit. So make sure you have chargers for devices.

5. Miscellaneous But Necessary

Pack bottled water for your trip. It will keep you from ordering sugary fast food drinks if you have to stop for food! And because you packed bottled water, you’ll have to stop to go to the bathroom. Pack hand sanitizer for those public restroom stops! These two definitely go hand-in-hand!

Love your post! I agree with your list of essentials! This reminds me of a post I made on travel essentials on my blog but I hadn’t thought of road trips! It’s a lot different because the PERFECT playlist is a MUST.
