As I’ve mentioned before, one of the first things I always buy first for fall during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is boots! (This year was no exception as I stocked up on both ankle boots and knee boots.) And recently after going through my OTK boots from last year, I’ve realized that I need to retire a few pairs… But with so many styles out there, how do you know you’re picking out the best option? I’m helping you out by breaking boots down in three categories while showing you all my favorite styles at different price points in today’s Fall Boot Guide!

Ankle booties are by far the most transitional option for that awkward time in between the end of spring and beginning of (actual) fall weather. Wear with swing dresses and cropped jeans for effortless casual outfits. Plus, there are so many fun colors, prints and embellishments to choose from to easily spice up a boring look!
Midi and Knee Boots
After OTK boots have really been dominating the past few years, this season kind of marks the resurgence of the heeled knee boot. More specifically, the slouchy knee boot – look for heeled versions in rich suede. And of course, an old classic is still here to stay in the flat leather riding boot to wear with all your capes and ponchos.
Always a hot item for fall, there are plenty of OTK boots out this season. I wore my black pair so much last year that, I’ve got to get a new pair in time for our first Louisiana cool front. (Ps. I like to look for OTK boots that tie in the back to ensure a snug fit around the thigh.)
As much as I hate to admit it, I can’t wait until I can break out my comfy shearling boots again! In November and December, this style boot is my go-to with leggings and oversized tees for running errands and easy weekends at home.
